Periodic Docker Image Cleanup
Kyle: “Developer Tip of the Day: Periodic Docker Cleanup
If you are using Docker to play around with various versions of Business Central, be sure to clean up your images occasionally. Let's say you started with BC 13. Then you removed that container and went to BC 15. Deleting the container does not remove the underlying image. You should delete the BC 13 image. Here’s how:
Open elevated PowerShell
Docker image ls -a
PS C:\> docker image ls -a
REPOSITORY TAG IMAGE ID CREATED SIZE

Find the one for BC 13, which in this case is image ID 892bc1496752.
Docker image rm 892bc1496752
This command can take several minutes for each image delete, and it is also careful to warn you if an image is still being used by a container. Don't delete those.”
Business Central News
MSDynamicsWorld shared the news that Mike Morton has been named the new General Manager over Dynamics 365 Business Central, including Morton’s announcement of the recently revealed Business Central policy regarding data storage. Microsoft created a new SKU to allow customers of Business Central SaaS to purchase extra storage beyond the baseline 80 GB allotment. That limit, and the price of additional storage, is already considered too restrictive by some partners to encourage the migration of larger NAV customers. Morton added that the team is making improvements to further reduce database size for customers. These improvements include:
- New tooling to see table sizes
- The introduction of SQL compression on Business Central databases
- Automated log file management, with the ability to set policies on how long to keep logs
- Alerts on database growth
- Moving attachments to file storage
Looking ahead to 2020 Release Wave 2, Morton advised that CDS integration improvements will continue. He also said that, while there is not yet a Teams integration story for Business Central, it is "the next big phase of integration" with Microsoft 365, and there will be new scenarios to demo in the Wave 2 timeframe.
