ArcherPoint Dynamics NAV Developer Digest - vol 247

The NAV community, including the ArcherPoint technical staff, is made up of developers, project managers, and consultants who are constantly communicating, with the common goal of  sharing helpful information with one another to help customers be more successful.

As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them on blogs, forums, social media…so everyone can benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this community—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share this great information with everyone who might not have the time to check out the multitude of resources out there? So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from NAV experts and devotees around the world. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.

Release Plan for Microsoft Dynamics 365 – 2019 Wave 2

Recently, Microsoft provided information for wave 2 of the Dynamics 365 release. Here’s what our team shared.

Saurav notes: “The release plan (formerly release notes) for the 2019 release wave 2 describes all new features releasing from October 2019 through March 2020 for Dynamics 365.

Scott delves into more detail: “Dynamics 365 and Power Platform – 2019 release wave 2 plan has been published. On June 10, 2019, the release plans (formerly known as the release notes) were published with the initial list of features for Dynamics 365 and Power Platform. The release plan provides you with early visibility to get ready for the updates planned from October 2019 to March 2020. With early access to mandatory end-user impacting features, customers and partners can validate the upcoming features and capabilities months in advance, before they’re enabled automatically twice per year, during the April and October updates. Early access enables you to try and validate some of these new features (including all features that are enabled automatically for end users) in a non-production environment and get ready to roll out the changes with confidence. Early access for the 2019 release wave 2 October update will start on August 2nd, 2019. Printing Reports in Succession in NAV 2018 Web Client

Tom Hunt posts: “Today’s AL Challenge: I’m working on a project where I need to print off three different reports in quick succession without showing a request page or a prompt for a printer. When I do this in code, only the last report actually prints; the other two run, but the output does not actually go anywhere. If I introduce something to break the code execution momentarily, like CONFIRM prompts, things work correctly. I talked to Todd and Kyle and ran some experiments. It looks like this only happens in the NAV 2018 web client. In the dedicated client, everything works properly. Has anyone seen behavior like this before? If so, what did we do to resolve it?”

Bill W asks: “Can you check that code in and push it in a feature branch? This way you can point out the exact code and anyone should be able to replicate it in a Docker container. You can just leave the branch there, get a link to the code in question, or even open up a draft Pull Request. If you do a Draft PR, you’ll have a nice diff of the code in question.”

Tom replies: “I’ve checked it into the master branch. Kyle Hardin said he was going to see what happened with it in Business Central, so we’ll see what happens there.”
