Question concerning renaming the primary NAV Company:

A client would like to rename their primary NAV Company. I have done this only once before, and it took about 30 minutes and was successful and caused no other problems. Has anyone had any problems with this in the past? This client is in the middle of an upgrade, so it is a perfect time to test.

Matt Traxinger: I've seen it take a long time for a small database, but it did finally finish. The main thing to remember is that this will rename the SQL tables, so any integrations or external reports will likely need to be re-written as well.

Jon Long: I've experienced problems with re-naming companies in upgrades. One company renamed all of their companies in the test DB with some form of the word "TEST" in it. It was random, sometimes before, sometimes after. They also had to truncate part of the original name. When it came time for GoLive, they wanted all their permissions/personalizations etc. from the test DB to be copied into the new DB. Of course, each of these tables has the company name column. This is where the rename of the companies caused trouble.

Laurie OBrien: I agree with Jon, renaming the company certainly causes an issue with the permissions. If they are going to change the name, have to make sure you check the permissions, if a company is associated with the permissions it has to be changed if you are using one company and no company has been selected for the permissions you shouldn't have an issue.. Blank company will take care of the name change

Crystal Hill: Starting in 2013R2 you have to use a PowerShell script if you are trying to rename a company that has any real data in it. I found the rename will work, if you have small amounts of data, but if you get over a few weeks you have to use a script. This and permissions are the only "problems" I ran into with renaming companies.

Question regarding having a Page part that is a view into SharePoint:

Question: Is it possible to have a Page part that is a view into SharePoint? If so, would there be a way to have that displayed as a Page part?

Matt Traxinger: I'm pretty sure you can publish a Page in SharePoint, but sounds like you want it the other way around. I would think the easiest way would be to create a .NET add-in and use a browser control. It basically embeds the main part of IE into the control.
