ArcherPoint Dynamics NAV Business Central Developer Digest - vol 336

ArcherPoint Dynamics NAV Business Central Developer Digest - vol 336

A cool new feature offered by BC Central 18 IntelliSense, importing without validation, a handy new calendar of events, and an invite to Microsoft’s BC 21 digital launch event are featured in this week’s Developer Digest.

The Dynamics NAV and Business Central community, including the ArcherPoint technical staff, is made up of developers, project managers, and consultants who are constantly communicating, with the common goal of  sharing helpful information with one another to help customers be more successful.

As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them on blogs, forums, social media…so everyone can benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this community—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share this great information with everyone who might not have the time to check out the multitude of resources out there? So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from NAV/BC experts and devotees around the world. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.

Business Central 18 IntelliSense Displays Obsolete Fields and Objects with a Strike-Through

Saurav asks: “What else you could you, as a developer, want? Business Central 18 IntelliSense shows a strike-through for obsolete fields and objects.” Check it out:

Developer Tip of the Day: Importing without Validation

Kyle shares this DToD with us:

“*****DISCLAIMER*****

This is only for use with your local docker containers. Do not ever, EVER use this to import data into a Customer’s database. You have been warned.

If you want some sample data in your Docker container but don’t need referential integrity, this Page Extension adds an Action to Config. Package fields that lets you completely turn off field validation. Combine that with some clever filtering and shutting off the table validation triggers (these steps are part of defining your package), and you can import anything: General Ledger entries, Posted Sales invoices, whatever.

This is a super-power. Use it for good, not evil.”

Tom H adds his input: “I wound up doing something similar that shuts off all the validation for fields and table triggers. This happened as a direct result of dealing with a certain ISV, which was driving me absolutely nuts.”
