ArcherPoint Dynamics NAV Developer Digest - vol 196

The NAV community, including the ArcherPoint technical staff, is made up of developers, project managers, and consultants who are constantly communicating, with the common goal of  sharing helpful information with one another to help customers be more successful.

As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them on blogs, forums, social media…so everyone can benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this community—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share this great information with everyone who might not have the time to check out the multitude of resources out there? So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from NAV experts and devotees around the world. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.

Azure Container Instances for Dynamics 365 Business Central

Andrey Baludin originally posted how to set up a “Server-less” instance of D365 Business Central, explaining the steps to make this happen. Mike at NAV Bits and Bytes furthers the conversation and his experience using the Azure Cloud Shell to create an Azure Container Instance the “lazy” developer way. Check out his in-depth post, Dynamics 365 Business Central in an Azure Container Instance for all the details and perceived benefits of going server-less.

News from NAVUG Focus

Jon Long shares, “D365 Business Central Windows client will exist in the on premises version, but not in the cloud version. Therefore, MenuSuites will live on in the Windows client in D365 BC on premises. This is a change from the message we received at Directions Asia.

Microsoft has now stated that ’the Windows client will indeed be in Dynamics 365 Business Central On Premises version.’ This is a change from their statements in March, though not a huge deal. The Web Client will still be preferable. It requires less maintenance and is more scalable across devices. The faster our customers move to the web client, the better off we all will be.

Which Docker Image is Right for You?

With everyone now using Docker images for Dynamics NAV and/or D365 Business Central, Freddy has posted a blog that clearly explains which Docker image is right for your situation and where to get it. Whether you are developing for Dynamics NAV, Dynamics 365 Business Central, maintaining an application in AppSource, or developing for a future release of D365 BC, this is your source for Docker image information, including how to get support.
