E-Ship Bill of Lading on a Mobile Device

Jimmie S has a couple of questions for the team, “I have a client that would like a modification that enables them to bring up the E-Ship bill of lading on a tablet, or possibly handheld scanner, then have the driver e-sign the bill of lading. I'm not a developer, so I'd like your input.

  1. How realistic is it to create such a modification?
  2. Have any of you ever done it?

Matt T responds, “It can definitely be done, but it's a bit of work. I'm assuming they are on a relatively modern version of Dynamics NAV. A JavaScript add-in would need to be created. It could potentially leverage one of the pre-built signature capture tools used in applications other than NAV, but that's a ‘you never know until you try’ kind of deal. It's not a small number of hours and not a whole lot of true NAV development.

Jimmie adds, “I was discussing it with Michael H. the other day and during our conversation he did a quick search and thought Microsoft’s Extensibility for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Tablet Client solution would likely be the way to go. Would you agree?

Matt T likes this option, stating “Perfect! Like my second comment, though, I don't think you can put this in the report, preview it on the tablet, and have them sign. They work great on pages. I could be wrong here, though.”

Allowing Bank Payment Information on Dynamics NAV 2018 Sales Orders

Tom Hunt notes, “In new installations of NAV 2018, I've gone to print a Sales Order and seen a message saying ‘No payment information is provided in Company Information. Do you want to provide it now?’

You can get this message to go away by going to the Company Information page and checking the ‘Allow Blank Payment Info’ box as shown in the image below. You can also fill in any number of the following fields to make it go away: Giro No., IBAN, Bank Name, Bank Branch No., Bank Account No., or SWIFT Code.”

Matt T reflects, “I always kind of thought it was funny that you could print an invoice and not give your client any clue as to how to pay you.”
